LIDO nasce in un contesto europeo, come formato di scambio e di condivisione delle informazioni tra musei e istituti di conservazione, ed è dunque dotato di quei campi necessari e sufficienti a individuare (identificare, descrivere, contestualizzare) un bene in contesto digitale, come risorsa e come collettore di altre risorse. LIDO permette di creare un archivio digitale di oggetti descritti in quanto prodotti finali dotati di precise caratteristiche tecnico-materiali ma anche connessi a eventi precedenti (progettazione, creazione, realizzazione) e successivi (esposizione, utilizzo, movimentazione, ecc.) ad essi.
LIDO è uno standard perfettamente integrato con il modello concettuale di riferimento CIDOC-CRM: esso definisce una struttura formale per descrivere i concetti e le relazioni implicite ed esplicite utilizzati nella documentazione del patrimonio culturale, permettendo così di realizzare interconnessioni e interoperabilità fra diverse strutture di dati. I dati raccolti in xDams risiedono in formato XML, quindi sono naturalmente pronti per essere trattati e pubblicati come Linked Open Data, diventando risorse web liberamente disponibili in formato RDF.
LIDO è organizzato in 7 macroaree, di cui 4 di carattere descrittivo, e 3 di carattere amministrativo.
- Object Classification
- Object Identification (titolo, iscrizioni, localizzazione, edizione, descrizione fisica e misure)
- Evento, ossia tutti gli eventi connessi all’oggetto: acquisizione, creazione, ritrovamento, modifica, utilizzo, ideazione, distruzione, perdita, ecc. Le tipologie di evento sono quelle definite nelle sottoclassi definite per la classe del modello concettuale CIDOC – CRM E5 Event.
